US Water Systems sells two main home softeners, the app-connected Matrixx (from $1,295.95) and the lower-cost Flexx-HD (from $951.95), both in 35,000 to 70,000-grain sizes, prices as of October 2026.

On this page
Quick answer
- Matrixx: Bluetooth smart metered softener, 35K/53K/70K grains, 12 to 22 gpm peak.
- Flexx-HD: upflow brining with a ceramic disc valve, from $951.95.
- Matrixx warranty: lifetime tank and resin, 10 years on valve and electronics.
- Neither page publishes a maximum hardness or iron rating.
- Commercial units are priced online, up to 600,000 grains.
Verdict
US Water Systems is one of the more detailed online sellers: it publishes regeneration tables, service and peak flows, and component-level certification wording. The Matrixx is a well-equipped smart softener with a strong valve warranty. The Flexx-HD is a fair-priced upflow unit. Neither lists hardness or iron limits, and the Matrixx costs a little less than our top pick at entry size but more at larger sizes.
Matrixx and Flexx-HD: fit check
Strong match
Owners who want app monitoring and usage reports (Matrixx), or upflow brining at a lower price (Flexx-HD). Businesses that want to see commercial pricing before calling anyone.
Probably not for you
Well owners with iron who want a softener rated for a stated ppm, or buyers who want a named valve brand on a residential unit.
Specifications
Figures below are from the maker's product pages, October 2026. The Matrixx capacity is marked "capacity when new."
| Model | Capacity (max) | Flow | Valve | Price (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matrixx MXX-100 | 35,000 grains | 10 gpm service, 12 peak | Smart control, Bluetooth | $1,295.95 |
| Matrixx MXX-150 | 53,000 grains | 15 gpm service, 17 peak | Smart control, Bluetooth | $1,549.25 |
| Matrixx MXX-200 | 70,000 grains | 20 gpm service, 22 peak | Smart control, Bluetooth | $1,750.95 |
| Flexx-HD FXP-100 | 35,000 grains | 10 gpm | Ceramic rotary disc, 12V | $951.95 |
| Flexx-HD FXP-150 | 53,000 grains | 15 gpm | Ceramic rotary disc, 12V | $1,126.95 |
| Flexx-HD FXP-200 | 70,000 grains | 20 gpm | Ceramic rotary disc, 12V | $1,381.22 |
At its high-efficiency setting the Matrixx delivers 15,000, 22,500 and 30,000 grains on 3, 4.5 and 6 lb of salt. It holds 220 lb of salt, has battery backup, and connects with 1-inch or 3/4-inch NPT. The Flexx-HD uses metered (demand) regeneration with upflow brining, a built-in bypass, 1-inch connections and a brine tank of about 180 lb of salt. Valve brands are not named for either model.
What it does well
Smart features with real data. The Matrixx pairs with the Legacy View app over Bluetooth, tracks salt level and sends 90-day water usage reports. The maker describes the valve as having a "single internal moving part" and says it is made in the USA.
Published regeneration tables. For each Matrixx size, the page lists salt, water and minutes per regeneration at each setting. That lets you work out real running costs instead of relying on a headline claim.
Certification wording on components. The Matrixx page lists a "WQA Gold Seal Certified Smart Control Valve," an "NSF-approved fiberglass tank," "NSF Certified 10% Cross-Linked Resin," and "WQA-certified and NSF/ANSI Standard 61 compliant components." These are component-level statements, not a whole-system performance certification, but they are more than many online brands publish.
Upflow at a lower price. The Flexx-HD brings upflow brining and a ceramic disc valve to the bottom of the range, at $951.95 for 35,000 grains, with a 7-year valve and electronics warranty.
Where it falls short
- No hardness or iron ratings. Neither model page publishes a maximum hardness or iron figure. The FAQ advises an iron filter ahead of a softener when iron is present.
- Efficient-setting capacity is much lower. The 70,000-grain Matrixx gives 30,000 grains at its 6 lb high-efficiency setting, so size with that figure in mind rather than the maximum.
- Flow figures vary on the page. Marketing copy mentions a higher peak flow than the spec table. We use the table's 22 gpm for the largest size.
- No product certification on the Flexx-HD. Its page mentions WQA-certified staff, which refers to people, not the softener.
- Valve maker unnamed. Neither residential model identifies the valve manufacturer.
Pros and cons
Pros
App monitoring and usage reports, full regeneration tables, 10-year Matrixx valve warranty, a lower-cost upflow option, and online commercial pricing.
Cons
No published hardness or iron limits, much lower capacity at efficient settings, no product certification on the Flexx-HD, and unnamed valve makers.
Price and warranty
Matrixx pricing in October 2026 was $1,295.95, $1,549.25 and $1,750.95 for the 10, 15 and 20 gpm sizes. A Wi-Fi "Drop" version runs $1,838.95, $2,043.95 and $2,317.95. The Flexx-HD lists at $951.95, $1,126.95 and $1,381.22.
The maker states a lifetime warranty on the Matrixx tank and resin plus 10 years on valve and electronics. The Flexx-HD carries a lifetime tank warranty and 7 years on valve and electronics. Both come with a 1-year satisfaction guarantee.
The maker's salt claims: "StackFlow Technology: Up to 70% Less Salt & Water" for Matrixx, and "up to 75% less salt and 64% less water vs. downflow systems" for Flexx-HD. These are maker claims, not figures we measured.
On the commercial side, the Matrixx Bluetooth Commercial 1-inch unit is $1,795.95 with a 13 by 54-inch tank and 2.5 cubic feet of resin; grains are not published. A Fleck 2900 2-inch single-tank metered unit runs $4,680 to $11,220 for 120,000 to 600,000 grains, with a stated 5-year warranty on valve, electronics and tanks.
How it compares with our picks
At entry level, the Matrixx MXX-100 ($1,295.95) and our top-ranked SoftPro Elite Smart HE (well model, 32,000 grains, $1,327 in October 2026) are within about $30 of each other. The Elite publishes no gpm figure, and its warranty is a limited lifetime on the control valve and essential components rather than the Matrixx's split of lifetime tank and resin plus 10-year valve. The Elite publishes a softener-alone iron rating on the QWT listing (up to 3 ppm clear-water iron) and offers an AIO Iron Master bundle with a 30 ppm iron rating from SoftPro, which is why it leads our well water roundup. Read the SoftPro Elite review for the full spec.
Against the Flexx-HD, a 32,000-grain SoftPro ECO costs $947 for wells or $967 for city water, and SoftPro states it uses 10% less salt. The ECO City warranty is lifetime on the mineral and brine tanks and 10 years on the control valve, longer on the valve than the Flexx-HD's 7 years. See the SoftPro ECO review.
For a named valve, QWT lists the Fleck 5600SXT from $1,189; details are in our Fleck 5600SXT review. Businesses comparing US Water's commercial range with SoftPro and Pentair Fleck units should start with our commercial roundup.
