Verdict

Who it suits

Restaurants, care homes, food processors and small plants that want soft water through busy peaks, a price list for every size, and a system a residential-trained technician can service.

Who should skip it

Sites needing published per-model flow ratings, written warranty terms up front, or more than 270,000 grains; look at brass-valve Fleck systems or a dealer-built skid instead.

The Pro Series is our top commercial pick because it scales by adding tanks rather than by jumping to a bigger valve, and every layout carries a public price. Its weak spot is paperwork: SoftPro's own listing leaves out flow per model, the valve make and the warranty, so a buyer has to get those in writing.

How it works

Like any salt-based softener, the Pro Series uses ion exchange: resin beads trade calcium and magnesium for sodium, and a brine rinse recharges them. What sets this series apart is how it handles flow. SoftPro calls it Progressive Flow Design: during high demand, additional tanks come online to add flow capacity, and they drop back off when demand falls. In the duplex, triplex and quadraplex layouts this also lets tanks take turns regenerating, so the building keeps getting soft water while one tank is recharging.

Regeneration is upflow, meaning brine moves up through the resin, against the direction of service. SoftPro states the HE design uses 40–50% less salt and regeneration water than old designs. Quality Water Treatment's listing adds savings figures from one customer case study at a car wash: up to 38% water savings, 50% salt savings and 47% operating savings, with a note that other applications may vary.

The controller meters water rather than running on a clock. SoftPro says it can detect flows under 1 gpm and keeps totaling flow through power outages for up to 9 hours. QWT's listing describes the controller as fully programmable and remote mounted, with parallel, alternating and demand-flow modes, system interlock and auxiliary outputs. The brine tank includes a plastic salt plate, brine well and cap, air check and safety float.

Sizing and models

Commercial sizing starts with peak flow, because the system must pass the site's busiest draw without a big pressure drop. Since SoftPro does not publish flow per layout, ask for the rated service flow of the exact model before choosing. Next comes daily grains: gallons per day × hardness in gpg. A care home using 4,000 gallons a day on 15 gpg water needs 60,000 grains a day.

Pro Series layouts and prices at SoftPro (Oct 2026)
LayoutGrain optionsPrice range
Single81,000 / 108,000 / 135,000$2,179–$3,199
Duplex81,000 to 189,000$5,299–$8,999
Triplex81,000 to 189,000$7,749–$13,329
Quadraplex81,000 to 270,000$10,189–$30,149

The listings do not say whether the grain figure is per tank or for the whole system, which matters for working out days between regenerations. Ask. As a rule of thumb, a single tank suits a site that closes overnight; a duplex or larger suits any site that draws water around the clock. SoftPro lists nursing homes, an interstate facility, meat processing, food facilities and assisted living among its applications. Free WISDOM commercial sizing is offered by both stores, and SoftPro says its Commercial Pro team manually checks each order. Our commercial sizing guide walks through more examples.

Price and warranty

The October 2026 price range on the SoftPro Pro Series listing (a store we own) runs from $2,179 for an 81,000-grain single to $30,149 for a 270,000-grain quadraplex. The same SKUs at Quality Water Treatment (a store we own) are priced within a few dollars, from $2,180.62 to $30,155. SoftPro lists free shipping and "In stock. Shipped within 1-3 days." QWT mentions financing and leasing.

Warranty terms for the commercial system are not published on either page. QWT's page does carry a paragraph about a lifetime warranty, but it belongs to an embedded review of SoftPro's residential Elite softener and does not describe this system. Get the commercial warranty in writing before ordering. For installed cost, see commercial water softener cost.

How it compares

Against the Pentair Fleck commercial range from Quality Water Treatment, the Pro Series wins on multi-tank flexibility and published salt-efficiency claims, while Fleck wins on published flow (up to 250 gpm on the 3900) and on capacity, reaching 1,200,000 grains. US Water Systems publishes prices for Fleck 2900 single tanks up to 600,000 grains and states a five-year warranty covering valve, electronics and tanks; see the US Water Systems review. Culligan sells through dealers on quotes. The full ranking is in best commercial water softeners, and use-specific advice is in water softeners for restaurants and hotels.

Common questions

How much does the SoftPro Pro Series cost?

As of October 2026, SoftPro lists it from $2,179 (single tank, 81,000 grains) to $30,149 (quadraplex, 270,000 grains). Duplex systems start at $5,299. Installation is extra.

What flow rate does the SoftPro commercial softener handle?

SoftPro does not publish a flow rate per model. It says extra tanks come online during high demand to add flow, and that the controller detects flows under 1 gpm. Ask for the rated service flow of your layout before ordering.

What warranty comes with the SoftPro Pro Series?

The commercial warranty is not published on SoftPro's or QWT's listing. A lifetime-warranty paragraph on QWT's page refers to SoftPro's residential Elite softener, not this system, so request written commercial terms.

Is the SoftPro Pro Series NSF certified?

Not as a system, based on the listings. QWT's page puts an NSF 44 line under the resin-tank spec and describes the resin as IAPMO certified. SoftPro's own page names no certification.

Who can install a SoftPro commercial softener?

According to SoftPro, installers who already know common residential products can install and service its systems. Drain, backflow and local code work usually call for a licensed plumber.
